Blue and White Dining Room Design

One of the big focuses of 2022 for me is to make all the spaces in my house my own. When we moved in, we had so many family and friends help us out with furniture they passed along among so many other things to help celebrate our engagement and wedding. There was a lot going on for a while so I wasn’t really able to give the room designs in my home the attention they deserved. I was also a first time home owner and never had a house to decorate before so I didn’t really know where to begin LOL. Now that the wedding is said and done, I have taken the time to figure out what it is when I walk into a room that makes me feel calm, peaceful, myself… (the list goes on). My goal for each space is to make it feel luxurious, beautiful, and a representation of me and my style. This blue and white dining room design did just that! I am so happy with how it turned out. It feels like out of a magazine. I will link the book that inspired the room below in this post. It’s called “Living With Blue & White.” I have it out on my coffee table in my living room and while flipping through I realized this is what I wanted my dining room to embody.

We have a 30-year-old dining room set from Thomasville which was a facebook marketplace find. I had Thomasville furniture in my bedroom growing up and my parents loved the brand as well and have a dining set from them still so I knew I was getting a quality set at an exceptional deal. The set was in beautiful, almost perfect condition, and it came with a table with two leaves, table pads, a china cabinet, server, and 6 chairs. One thing I knew off the bat I wanted to change were the upholstery on the chairs. I wanted something more neutral and bright to give the set new life. Turns out re-upholstering chairs is quite easy. My husband and I picked out some fabric from hobby lobby and turned it into a fun Friday night. The photos really speak for themselves with this one, it turned out perfect. I love the new life that simple touch gave this set with years of history behind it.

The next thing to tackle was the china cabinet. I never thought of myself as being someone who would have a china cabinet. There just isn’t a real use for it these days as most people don’t opt to have china anymore. I am taking advantage of it as a storage solution in my dining room. I used to have everything on display like my Grandma’s china among other things I got gifted for my bridal shower and such. I then decided that I wanted to be more intentional with what was displayed and decided that this would be my blue and white focal piece. I have my crystal and bar glasses mixed with blue and white pieces that I already had. it ties the room together so nicely and takes something more traditional and makes it more up-to-date and intentional. I love the way this came together!

The last big thing on the agenda was a fresh coat of paint. I have figured out through owning a home that white walls really are so timeless. You can make a space feel whichever way you want and you can keep things current more easily. Its so much easier, in my opinion, to change out a pillow cover then to repaint a room because you decided one day you no longer love the color green. It allows your home to grow with you throughout your life and that something that is very important to me. The color we chose was Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore.

We finished the room off with some blue and white touches like a rug under the table, some window treatments and a new centerpiece for the table. I am so happy with the end result and hope that maybe you’ll be able to pull some inspiration for your home in this post. I hope you enjoyed this blue and white dining room design. See you next time.
